What Happens During A Prostate Mri
You will be asked to change into a hospital gown and lie on a table attached to the MRI machine. A small needle will be inserted into a vein in your arm or hand this will be used to give the following medications:
Some radiology practices use an endorectal coil as part of the scan. An endorectal coil is a latex balloon with a central tube that contains the coils. It helps to provide high-quality images of the prostate and surrounding area. It is inserted into the rectum and inflated before the scan. It stays in during the scan and is removed when the scan is finished.
Some radiology practices also give an enema before the procedure. An enema is a liquid that is squirted into the rectum via the anus and helps to clear the bowel. Again, this is to provide as high-quality images as possible.

What is MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a method of scanning used to visualize detailed internal structure and limited function of the body. MRI provides much greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body.
Unlike X-rays or CT scanning, MRI does not use any ionizing radiation. In many cases, MRI gives information that cannot be seen on an X-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography scan. There are no known side effects of an MRI scan.

A PSA, or prostate specific antigen test, is a simple blood test that measures the amount of prostate specific antigen present in the blood.
PSA is a protein that men have in their blood which is released by the prostate gland. In healthy males, the amount of PSA men have in their blood is low generally less than 4.0 ng/mL.
However, when men age, their prostate can experience physiological or pathological changes which cause the PSA to rise.
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. The prostate is just in front of the rectum. The urethra runs through the center of the prostate, from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body.

Your doctor uses MRI to evaluate prostate cancer and see if it is limited to the prostate. Mp-MRI provides information on how water molecules and blood flow through the prostate. This helps determine whether cancer is present and, if so, whether it is aggressive and if it has spread.
Occasionally, MRI of the prostate is used to evaluate other prostate problems, including:

If there is any question, an x-ray can detect and identify any metal objects. Metal objects used in orthopedic surgery generally pose no risk during MRI. However, a recently placed artificial joint may require the use of a different imaging exam.
A Study With Surprising Results
Another study on coffee consumption says that four or more cups of coffee a day could lead to a reduced risk of the recurrence of prostate cancer and the progression of the disease.
This study was published in the Journal of Cancer Causes and Control. 1,001 prostate cancer patients were analyzed at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. All of them were diagnosed with prostate cancer, ages 35 to 74 years old.
The patients completed a food frequency questionnaire two years before diagnosis. They were required to give information regarding their diet and beverage consumption.
The researchers ran a follow-up analysis five years after the participants first diagnosis to find out whether the prostate cancer had recurred and/or progressed.
Of the original 1,001 participants, 630 then answered questions about their coffee intake and were included in the final results.
The data analysis manifested that 12% of the patients consumed four or more cups of coffee daily and showed a 59% decreased risk of recurrence of the disease compared to patients who consumed one cup or less of coffee each week.

Prostate Biopsy The Standard Screening Option But Not Without Flaws
During a prostate biopsy, a thin needle is inserted through the wall of your rectum and into the prostate to collect a sample of tissue. This may be repeated up to 12 times to take 12 separate samples. Most doctors will use a local anesthetic to numb the area, and blood may persist in the urine or semen for a few weeks after the biopsy.
